STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW

What to expect, and what’s expected

These festival guidelines are to ensure that everyone has the safest most enjoyable time possible at the festival. Don’t be that one douche that ruins someone’s festival because they don’t know how to behave themselves! Nobody likes that…

Management reserves the right to eject patrons if they are seen to be breaking festival rules.

RootBound is an outdoor festival, and although we strive to create the safest environment possible there are certain risks associated with attendance that you must take responsibility for. By attending RootBound you accept full responsibility for yourself and your actions. Management reserves the right to refuse entry or to eject patrons throughout the course of the event if their behaviour is considered to be inappropriate.

The above festival rules are conditions of entry. Failure to follow these rules can result in you being ejected from the festival.

🗺 DIRECTIONS 🗺

❗ BEWARE, MAP APPS MIGHT STEER YOU WRONG ❗

It seems the digital maps might have a little catching up to do, because they sometimes send people down a disused road that doesn’t connect up to the property anymore.

Follow these directions instead:

From Ingham, head down Forrest Beach Rd towards Forrest Beach. The Mungalla Station turnoff will be on your right, about 12 km down the road, past the Victoria Sugar Mill. Look for the large grove of mango trees on the right that frame the entrance to the property. You should be able to spy the big colourful RootBound banner on the side of the road. Turn onto the track and follow the road down to the festival.

The Festival Checklist contains these directions as well as some handy tips to help you have a fun and safe festival experience.

Please drive carefully along the unsealed roads, and try not to stir up dust. Once you’re nearing the festival site, please keep your speed to 10 km/h to ensure everyone’s safety 😇

⏰ FESTIVAL TIMES ⌚

Gates Open – 12 pm midday on the 11th of August

Music and Entertainment – Starts 5 pm Friday, ends 10pm Monday

Festival Patrons must be off-site by 4 pm on Tuesday afternoon.

🍻 ALCOHOL POLICY 🍹

Everyone enjoys a drink, however certain rules must be followed to ensure everyone has the safest, most enjoyable festival experience possible.

BYO

BYO alcohol is permitted and no alcohol will be sold on site.

No Glass – No Exceptions

This must be followed, and will be strictly enforced. If you are going to bring cartons of your favourite beer, cider, or spirits, buy it in a tinnie. If your favourite does not come in can, you might like to try something new for the weekend instead. Glass water bottles and food containers are permitted, but must be kept in your camp site.

No Excessive Alcohol

Alcohol is to be enjoyed in moderation. If you rock up with amounts of alcohol that is deemed to be excessive by our security staff, it’ll be confiscated. Just be responsible and it’s all good.

No Anti-Social Behaviour

RootBound is a family-friendly community event. Excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to socially unacceptable behaviour. Management and security staff reserve the right to eject patrons from the festival if their behaviour is deemed to be anti-social. Enjoy in moderation.

Car Searches

All cars will be searched upon entry, so please make our job easier and your wait shorter by ensuring that all eskies and cartons are easily accessible.

🚨 ROAD SAFETY 🚨

Road safety is a massive area of concern for us at Rootbound and for the local community. Please make sure that you follow all directions from event staff and on-site signage while entering and exiting the festival.

Don’t Drive Tired

Getting back a few hours earlier is not worth your life. Or someone else’s! – Get a decent rest before you start your drive home.

Don’t Drive Under The Influence

We will be working with local authorities and emergency services to minimise the amount of unsafe drivers on the roads. Expect the police to be conducting Roadside Breath and Drug Tests both on the way in and out of the festival grounds. For your own safety and the safety of the public make sure you are well and truly sober before getting behind the wheel.

We will have affordably priced drug self-testing available onsite at the In Tune harm reduction tent. If you have any doubts about your ability to drive or pass road-side testing, we urge you to utilise this service - It's a small investment for safe driving and peace of mind.

🥷 SNEAKING IN 🥷

There are some individuals who think that festivals don’t deserve the ticket money and that they can get away with sneaking in. This will not be tolerated! And here’s why.

Events on this scale are very expensive to run and take a tremendous amount of work. The organisers are just a handful of regular people. We’re members of the FNQ community, like you. We’re not lotto winners, we don’t have corporate investors, and we’re not blowing rich-kid family inheritances on a vanity project. We’re actually a Not-For-Profit group who does this mostly unpaid, and we take a frankly terrifying financial risk on this every year!

Please show some respect. Don’t be a punk and rip us off. We do our best to keep costs down so that ticket prices stay affordable for everyone. If you can’t afford it, there are options for you. You can always volunteer helping to run the festival. It’s a great way to meet the crew and make friends, and it’s heaps of fun. You could also provide music, a workshop, a performance, décor art, or about a million other things. I’m sure you’ve got a talent you can share! You can apply for a volunteer position here.

Anyone found sneaking in will be ejected from the festival grounds and will not be allowed to re-enter. Cars will be searched on the way in and, if your car is found to have a stowaway on board, the entire car-full of people will be refused entry and your tickets will be confiscated without a refund. Just don’t do it. Keep it real and tell ya mates to volunteer.

👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 FAMILY FRIENDLY 👩‍👦

As RootBound is a family-friendly event, there will be a designated Family Camping area, which will has been selected for it’s convenience to amenities distance from the noisier parts of the festival grounds. Please respect the fam and keep the noise down when you’re near these areas.

There will also be a dedicated kids space within the festival grounds, for mum and dad to catch a little break if they feel like it.

Kids under 15 can attend free of charge, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
